The Claude Code release notes for v2.1.312, published October 27, 2026, add an oidc.user_id_claim setting to the Claude apps gateway. It lets administrators identify people by an id_token claim other than sub. The notes give Microsoft Entra ID’s oid claim as an example.

The release also includes a range of fixes. Managed settings and organization policy are now fetched after signing in from the VS Code extension, where they previously were not fetched for the rest of the session. Claude no longer overwrites a very large CLAUDE.md, rules file or @-included file in a subdirectory after reading only its start. Instead, it is asked to read the whole file or edit in place. The spinner, OpenTelemetry effort values and transcripts now show the effort level in force, rather than a newly picked level the model has not yet applied.

Other changes include a fullscreen option where clicking the “to send now” hint sends a queued message right away. A command with an invalid name no longer stops all other commands from loading. In vim mode, d, c and y with a large gj or gk count now only move the cursor instead of deleting or copying text.

Why it matters

Teams using Entra ID or another OIDC provider can map gateway users to the identifier they already use. The file-handling and settings fixes address cases where Claude could work from incomplete or stale context, which affects output quality in large repositories.

What to do

Teams running the gateway should review the release notes and test the new claim setting before changing production identity mapping. Individual users should update and confirm that managed settings load correctly in the VS Code extension. Check the vendor’s site for any details not covered here.
